Introduction to the Diesel Generator

Posted on August 30th, 2010 in Belt Sander by beltsander  Tagged , ,

Diesel generators are the most commonly used generators due to the diesel’s unique trait – powerful, portable and highly dependable for a wide variety of uses. The typical type is water cooled and running at 1800 RPM. This makes the generators a great work horses as they are capable of operating for lengthier time compared to the gasoline generators. Besides, they also require minimal maintenance work and costs due to the absence of carburetors and spark plugs. They are also cheaper because of the low fuel costs in comparison to other fuels such as propane and gasoline.

Generators that run on diesel are similar to the diesel engines. There are two types of diesel engines – the 4-stroke and 2-stroke operations. The 4-stoke operation uses four strokes and is the common operation used in most generators. The initial stroke is the power stroke. This is when a fine mist of diesel is scattered on the piston under a hot compressed air space. The pressure will cause the piston to move down and the movement will be converted to a rotary motion that drives the crankshaft. Next is the exhaust stroke that is instigated by the crankshaft turning momentum to move the piston up, followed by suction stroke and compression stroke.

Despite being the cheaper generator among all, the diesel generators could be way more expensive in terms of their setting up and this is often the deterrent factor for most users. They are also subjected to an extent of unclean burning compared to other fuel generators although it has been improved in the recent years. They may require a larger compartment for fuel but this is safer than storing gasoline. Another disadvantage is that they are much noisier than other fuel generators.

Many people somehow believe that the savings derived from the investment in generators that run on diesel are worth to outweigh the disadvantages. They are potentially more cost-effective in terms of the fuel and maintenance as well as saving the maintenance hassle. This is the main factor why these generators are the top rated choice among commercial users. Although they are usually produced in large units, they can also be found in smaller sizes.

Different Styles of Lawn Rakes

Posted on August 25th, 2010 in Belt Sander by beltsander  Tagged ,

Caring for a yard frequently involves cleaning up messes. Debris is a yard can accumulate from plants shedding their leaves, resulting in quite a big mess strewn across a lawn. Besides making your lawn look messy, excessive debris can block light from reaching the grass blades, suffocating the grass and causing it to wither. To make this job easy, cleaning should be done regularly and not in spurts. The best tool for the job is a lawn rake. Lawn rakes can come in many shapes and sizes, each suited for a specific job. These are one of the simplest yet most widely used types of yard tools available.

A standard lawn rake has a series of tines on the end of a long handle. Tines are simply the fork-like appendages on the working end of the tool. These tines are angled in such as way that makes them effective at scooping up debris such as leaves. Each tine can move independently, allowing them to work their way into grooves as they are pulled along. The long handle is designed to provide the leverage necessary to force the tines into the ground. Despite their effectiveness at picking up debris, these rakes leave your lawn virtually unscathed.

Lawn rakes are not just used on lawns. These rakes are just as effective on bare soil and decorative rock too. Leaf rakes are designed with a wider head than most rakes. The wide head is more effective at scooping up large amounts of leaves at a time. Thatching rakes are a bit different in that they have extra thick, rigid tines which dig into the ground to remove thatch. A smaller yet equally useful type of rake are the ones intended for working around shrubs. Shrub rakes have a small head so they can work around plants in a flower bed without damaging them.

Even smaller are hand rakes, sized just right for use in one hand. Hand rakes can fit into every groove of your yard, including in flower beds and behind bushes. These rakes are designed for the most intricate of yard work but cannot scoop up large amounts of material at a time. If all of these different rakes seem overwhelming, consider using an adjustable yard rake. Adjustable rakes can change the size of the working head, making them suitable for multiple jobs. This saves money by combining the functionality of multiple rakes into one.

Sharpening a Lawn Mower Blade bound with a Burr King

Posted on August 20th, 2010 in Belt Sander by beltsander  Tagged

This video shows how you can sharpen a very dull mower blade in just seconds with Burr King’s new Mower Blade Grinder. The unit is based on Burr King’s best selling, industrial grinder the Model 760. The Mower Blade Sharpener allows the user to quickly sharpen blades in seconds, yes seconds. The sharpener runs a standard size abrasive belt at 8000 SFPM. Time for an education. Why is this so important? I’m glad you asked. Belts that are designed to run this fast (90 MPH) take metal away quickly and do not produce much heat. As the video shows the operator slides the blade across the wheel a couple of times, then uses the “slack belt” area do deburr the edge. If you have questions please ask.
